@Infinitum...: Thank you! We're having a very dry summer, so clouds are an unusual pleasure.

@Sylvain: Thank you very much. The paths are there to keep the damaging feet of wandering photographers (and everyone else) off of the delicate native plant life, apparently. :)

I use a photoshop plugin by theimagingfactory called Convert to B&W. It does basically what you say -- adjusts the channels -- but with a little more finesse.
